Robert Francis Strobel WW I Draft Card

According to the note on the bottom of this page Robert Francis Strobel was separated from his wife Amy Strobel 7 years Prior to Sept 12, 1918 and left her with Three young Children. at the time this web site was published I only know of two children.

I have however discovered this photo that was part of Catherine (Strobel) Siener's photo album

Written on the back is Louis, Earl and Catherine

Does anyone know who Earl might be? Did Amy Strobel have a child that died young?

Is this the Third child referred to on Robert Francis Strobel's Draft Card?

Anyone with any information about this please email me Steven R. Siener

SAMUEL WILEY RAINS JR.

Samuel's father was Samuel Wiley, Sr., born July 15, 1837, in Lincoln County Tennessee, the son of Bailey and Nettie (mnu) Rains. Bailey was married three times and the father of fifteen children.

Family knowledge tells us Samuel Wiley. Sr. and a brother, Clement C., rode a horse from Tennessee to Pope County in the early 1850's. Their two half brothers, Earl and Raleigh, also a half sister, Damaris Rains Floyd, were living in Pope County at the time.

Samuel Wiley, Sr., married Minerva Joiner December 13, 1857, in Pope County. He died September 22, 1890, and Minerva died March 9, 1917. They were the parents of nine children, Vernette, Pinkey Bales, Melissa, Samuel Wiley Jr., Florence, Ida, Lilly, Willis, and Oscar.

Samuel Wiley Jr. spent most of his entire life in Pope County where he was born July 6, 1867. most of it on the farm north of Golconda where his father had settled when he arrived from Tennessee. In his early years he farmed the land, also served his community as School Director, as well as Justice of the Peace. In the early 1920's Sam owned and operated a small grocery store in his home, the last few years of his ownership he added a gasoline pump as that was the early years of the automobile. Gasoline sold for 12 to 14 cents per gallon at that time.

Samuel Wiley Jr. and Mindoza Baker were married July 12, 1893, in Pope County at the home of Mrs. Emma Baker. Mindoza or Dozia, as she was called, died May 21. 1908 and was buried in the Rains Family Cemetery on the family farm in Pope County.

Samuel and Dozia were the parents of four children, Pearl born November 30, 1894 married Ira Carr and they had two children, Cynthia and Wilbur.

Mable born April 25, 1897 married Lee Claudine; they had a daughter Thelma (Betty). Later they were divorced and Mable married Edwin Allison and a daughter, Elaine, was born.

Lincoln and Ida had moved to Pontiac, Michigan in 1944, where they and their entire family continued to live in the area.

Docia married Dale Rolfe from Temple Hill, Pope County, Illinois, they were the parents of two daughters, Connie Rolfe Morgan and Theresa Rolfe Harp. They also have three grandchildren, Lia and Christopher Morgan and Andrew Harp.

Samuel Lee married Margaret Thompson and they had a son, Samuel Lee, Jr., also a daughter, Kimberly Rains Brown. They have seven grandchildren, Samuel Lee III, Jonathon, Stephanie and Holly Rains also Jennifer, Margaret and Dale, Jr., Brown.

Lincoln and Ida's children were all born in Pope County and attended Little Grandpier School, Docia and S. lee attended the Golconda Community high school.

Lincoln’s second wife was Elizabeth Delaney Gregory, mother of James Gregory. Lincoln died October 21, 1973, in Pontiac, Michigan. Elizabeth is still living.
