Obituary for John Edward Ewell in Harrisburg "The Daily Register," 21 November 1938, page 1: Ill for a year and in a state of coma practically all of the time for the past month, John Edward Ewell, 52, 1201 South Holland Street, died at 2 a.m. Sunday and was buried today at Shelby cemetery near Thacker's Gap. He was a retired farmer who came to Harrisburg five years ago and whose entire lfe hand been spent in the country near this city. A complication of diseases caused his death. He was the father of Emerson Ewell, East Alton; Mrs. Icalie Duncan, Spring Valley; Marie, May and Audie Ewell of Harrisburg and was a brother of Clarence Ewell of this city. They and five half-brothers, Dee and Alfred of Broughton, Elijah of Harrisburg, Virgil of Rudement and Clifford of Chicago, and three half-sisters, Mrs. Pearl Gribble, Rudement; Mrs. Effie Clark, Mitchellsville, and Mrs. Bess Langford, Harrisburg, survive. Rev. William Partain conducted his funeral at 11 a.m. today at the Dorrisville Baptist Church, of which he was a member. He was also a former member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge.
